County Londonderry, also known as County Derry (Irish: Contae Dhoire), is one of the six counties of Northern Ireland and part of the historic province of Ulster. Covering approximately 2,118 square kilometers (818 square miles), it is bordered by Lough Neagh to the southeast, the Atlantic Ocean to the north, and shares boundaries with counties Donegal, Tyrone, and Antrim.
The county's landscape is diverse, featuring the Sperrin Mountains in the south, rolling hills, fertile valleys, and a scenic northern coastline along the Atlantic. Notable natural attractions include the beaches of Magilligan Strand and Benone Beach, as well as the River Bann, which marks the county's eastern boundary.
The city of Derry~Londonderry, the county's largest urban center, is renowned for its well-preserved 17th-century city walls, which encircle the historic core. These walls are among the best-preserved in Europe and offer a unique promenade with panoramic views of the city.
Historically, the county was established during the early 17th century as part of the Plantation of Ulster, when the city of Derry was refounded as Londonderry by a consortium of London livery companies, leading to the county's current name.
Today, County Londonderry is known for its cultural heritage, including traditional music, festivals, and historical sites. The county's blend of natural beauty and rich history makes it a notable region within Northern Ireland
